Announcement: 20 Free Passes to 2018 Health IT Expo Available to Patients

LAS VEGAS – April 30, 2018 – Healthcare Scene, a leading network of online blog sites that provides news, insight and reach to healthcare providers and software companies, announced today that it will be giving away twenty (20) free passes to the 2018 Health IT Expo to patients.

“The 2018 Health IT Expo is an event like no other, “ says John Lynn, Founder and Editor at Healthcare Scene, the company behind the Expo. “We felt the time was right to introduce a new Health IT conference that focused on practical innovation rather than moonshots and one where attendees would leave with useful, tangible knowledge they could use right away rather than have their heads filled with platitudes. We wanted to build a culture of openness and collaboration. Having patients attend is a key part of building that culture.”

Patients are central to everything in healthcare, however, until a few years ago, it was not common for patients to be welcomed at healthcare conferences. There was a misperception that patients would not be interested or would not understand the information that was being discussed at these events. That changed a few years ago when a group of patient advocates started “Patients Included” – a designation for conferences that demonstrates a commitment to patient inclusiveness.

“Since this is the inaugural Health IT Expo, we didn’t have the resources to meet all the criteria for Patients Included,” explained Lynn. “However, we wanted to do whatever we could to ensure the patient voice is present at the conference. To that end, we have arranged to have Amanda Greene, @LALupusLady on Twitter, flown in as one of the keynote speakers. She is a tireless advocate for patients and we are grateful to have her at the event.”

“The response to the Expo has been fantastic,” added Brian Rosenberg, CEO of The Rosenberg Group and co-organizer of the event. “We have some incredible healthcare organizations registered to attend and we have innovative companies joining us as sponsors. Their support has made it possible for us to make this offer to patients. We’re excited to be able to give away 20 free passes to any patient that wants to come to our conference.”

The 2018 Health IT Expo is being held at the New Orleans Marriott May 30th to June 1st in New Orleans, Louisiana. Patients interested in attending can register via the conference website and use the special code “patients”. The first 20 patients that register will be given a complementary pass to the Expo.

These passes are meant for people who will attend the Expo and bring the voice of the patient to the conference or who will attend the sessions to learn and use that knowledge to further their patient advocacy/activation. Although everyone is a patient at one time or another, not many attend conferences using their patient voice. The latter is what conference organizers are seeking.
