Eric Alper, MD
Chief Quality Officer / Chief Clinical Informatics Officer

Eric Alper MD is VP / Chief Quality Officer and Chief Clinical Informatics Officer at UMass Memorial Health Care in Worcester, MA.  After Brown, he attended medical school and did his residency in Internal medicine at UMass in Worcester.  He became the first Hospitalist and built the hospitalist program which now employs over 60 physicians.  He led the education of medical students on their 3rd year Medicine clerkship for 10 years.  After a brief period working in a medical reference company, he focused on electronic health record systems.  He helped lead the implementation of Epic at the Lifespan hospitals in Rhode Island, and subsequently at UMass Memorial for 2200 physicians and 14,000 employees.  Most recently, he has been appointed Chief Quality Officer, where he is leveraging Epic to improve patient care, patient experience, and quality of care.  Throughout this time, he has continued to care for admitted hospital patients and teach.   He is Professor of Medicine at UMass Medical School.
